About
The Indiana Cave Survey was formed about 1986 when some cavers in Indiana saw the need for a specialized organization dedicated to documenting all cave and karst features in the state.
As part of this effort several tasks for the Indiana Cave Survey were identified. One was to maintain a database of all caves (defined as a void of at least 25 feet long, deep, or a combination of the two) as well as other karst features such as springs, sinks and swallowholes, and other features which do not currently meet the Survey’s definition of a cave. Data collected include entrance(s) information including location, owner, and one or more photo; information on the cave (length, depth, fauna, etc); published and unpublished map(s) of the cave; and published references (both from caving newsletters and scientific papers).
The Indiana Cave Survey, Inc is a non-profit organization registered in the state of Indiana. For more detailed information about the structure and organization of The Indiana Cave Survey, please read The ICS Constitution and Bylaws.
